He has been appointed as the assistant of Ankara Academy of Economical and Commercial Sciences and related Colleges as of 1972. Dr. Bahçeli again in the 1970’s is one of the founders and general presidents of Idealist Financier and Tradesman Association (ÜMİD-BİR) and University Academy and Colleges Assistants Foundation (ÜNAY). Dr. Bahçeli who has a good level of English proficiency has made his Economical Doctorate at the Social Sciences Institute of Gazi University and has continues his appointment as educational member until 1987 in Department of Economy Policy of Economical and Administrative Sciences Faculty of the same university.

Within this time Dr. Bahçeli has dealt with issues such Turkish Islamic world, Turkish and Global Economy, Turkish History and Foreign Politics and made studies in these fields. He has works appreciated in the defense of just cases of managers and members of MHP and Idealistic organizations imprisoned after coup of September 12^th, 1980.

Dr. Bahçeli who undertook important duties in the growing of idealist cadres, has dismissed from his duty of lecturer from university on April 17^th, 1987 upon call to duty by Başbuğ Alparslan and he has been selected to the management of the party at the MÇP Grand Assembly held on April 19^th, 1987 and has been appointed as General Secretary.

The duty from management cadres of MÇP and MHP has continued without interruption until our date. Dr. Devlet Bahçeli who was charges in miscellaneous periods as General Secretary, General President Assistant, Central Conduct Member, Center Decision Council Member and Chief Counselor of General President, has undertaken the duty of General President of MHP after the 5^th Extraordinary Congress on July 6^th, 1997.

He has been reselected as General President at the Ordinary Grand Congresses of MHP on November 5^th, 2000, October 12^th, 2003, November 19^th, 2006 and November 8^th, 2009.
